When violence hits home, it becomes important. Why wait until then to do something about it? Read the book, and learn how one girl made Solrac Music a house hold name, while helping put a stop to violent behavior in her community.
Solrac (Soul-Rock) music is a music genre originating in the United States by periodic positive message song releases made to the style by other artists of many genres, such as Marvin Gaye, Earth, Wind and Fire, Bobby McFerrin, Cat Stevens, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, U2, Ella Fitzgerald, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Johnny Nash, Simon and Garfunkel and many more. The music had been used exclusively fill the purpose of fully promoting positive thinking starting in 1979 by Carlos Merriweather.
According to the original definition created in the first meeting, Solrac, (soul-rock) is "music developed to Rock the Soul to higher levels of intelligence." The purpose arose out of the need to redirect the cultural youth music experiences from negative lyrics to positive in the African American culture/black experience in America. After a partnership with Tom Frasie encouraging a new songwriting major at Berklee College of Music 1985, Carlos determined to implement the music purpose.
The actual designation to the purpose was not made until 1986, when Shedrick Claycomb, Michael Southers, David Blincoe, and Micheal Young met in planning with Carlos Merriweather. The result was the first record of the genre, "Solrac." As with older Soul music, Solrac music combines elements of gospel, and rhythm and blues, but adds elements of rock, rap and jazz. Solrac (Soul-Rock) functions to tell the story of hurt, pain, and repressive conditions while offering solutions toward empowering people to "Live in love and rise above." (Shedrick Claycomb) Solrac (Soul-Rock) music is intentionally inclusive of all forms of popular music, and takes the lyrics into a form of secular brainstorming toward positive results.
Compassion is an important feature of Solrac, (soul-rock) music. Other characteristics are as with Soul Music are call and response between the soloist and the chorus, a decisive rhythmic vocal sound, and lyrics that tell a story.
